The State of Nevada has issued a request for cannabis production establishments to “please submit all inhalable menu items with ingredients listed to the Department for review no later than Sunday, January 5, 2020.”
The request comes as other states ban additives believed to be responsible for the vaping-related lung injuries and deaths across the United States in 2019.
See a copy of the official email below.
To All Cannabis Production Establishments:
The Department has begun pursuing additional safety guidance for non-marijuana ingredients prohibited for use in any manufactured products, including vape cartridges. In effort to ensure potentially dangerous ingredients are not being used in marijuana products, please submit all inhalable menu items with ingredients listed to the Department for review no later than Sunday, January 5, 2020. The following ingredients are not approved for inhalation at this time:
· Vitamin E acetate
· Polyethylene glycol (PEG)
· Dimethysulfoxide (DMSO)
The Department is currently reviewing the potential risks associated with inhaling Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT oil) and considering restrictions. If you are currently using this ingredient in inhalable products, please consider revising your ingredients. If you are unsure which products are allowable for the intended use, please refer to the FDA Inactive Ingredient Database for the intended route of administration.
Marijuana product manufacturing facilities are allowed to continue the use of cannabis-derived ingredients or botanically-derived terpenes at concentrations approved by the MED.
